High and exacting standards are required to meet New Zealand Food Safety Authority’s (NZFSA) mandate to protect consumers; and Whakatu Coldstores is committed to ensuring that this is reflected in the best possible technology and services to ensure client’s product is received, stored and delivered in pristine condition.
This technology includes Electronic Scanning and an on-line and real-time Inventory system, the ability to interface directly to NZFSA web services, known as electronic E Certs, and further control technologies such as electronic temperature, humidity and environmental probes sensors, recorders and data loggers.
Clients have access to the inventory system giving them the ability to manage their stocks (eg change stock status) and also able to run reports directly themselves.

In New Zealand nearly 80% of the food we produce is exported, providing just over half the country’s export earnings and underpinning our economy. Protecting consumers and our reputation as a supplier of safe and suitable food is an imperative.
MPI’s mandate is to protect all consumers of New Zealand food. On 15 September 2008, the New Zealand Cabinet agreed that:
“The Ministry for Primary Industries mandate is to protect consumers by providing an effective food regulatory programme covering food produced and consumed in New Zealand as well as imports and exports of food products.”
The new statutory mandate emphasises, “In pursuing this mandate the overriding priority will always be to protect consumers.”
